Description
As the discipline of Lifestyle Medicine has developed, it has become increasingly recognized that there are a broad range of factors that contribute to health, healing and wellbeing. Having a sense of meaning in life has emerged as a key “upstream” determinant of health and happiness. In this presentation we shall explore why meaning matters, how to foster it, and why it is imperative for “treating the cause” of chronic diseases.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain and appraise upstream determinants of health
  • Discuss factors that contribute to an individual’s sense of meaning
  • Identify strategies for increasing an individual’s sense of meaning

Speaker

Marty-MakaryDarren P. Morton, PhD, DipIBLM | Senior Lecturer - Lifestyle Research Centre, Avondale College of Higher Education

Dr Darren Morton is an internationally recognized well-being researcher and educator. He is currently a senior academic in the Lifestyle Research Centre at Avondale College of Higher Education. Darren is the author of four books and over 50 publications in scientific and medical journals. He has also made numerous media appearances and he has presented to hundreds of corporate, educational, community and academic groups around the world.
