During the discussion, Kristi Artz, MD, DipABLM of Spectrum Health describes the programmatic design and health outcomes associated with the Spectrum Health Culinary Medicine program, and Sean Hashmi, MD, MS, FASN, of Kaiser Permanente Southern California explains population-based and interventional approaches to fatty liver and chronic disease through lifestyle medicine interventions. Learning objectives:

  1. Evaluate methods to advance lifestyle medicine as a foundational approach to fatty liver and chronic disease.
  2. Evaluate culinary medicine solutions that leading health systems are using to advance high value care and achieve the Quadruple Aim.
  3. Examine replicable approaches to effectively implementing LM solutions to address various chronic diseases.

Motivated by treating patients with acute and chronic illnesses, Kristi is focused on reimagining how we connect with patients using personalized lifestyle interventions including food as medicine. Kristi is board certified in emergency medicine, a Specialist of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, a Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist and serves as Medical Director of Lifestyle Medicine at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI.

Sean Hashmi, MD, MS, FASN

Regional Director, Clinical Nutrition and Weight Management @Kaiser Permanente

Dr. Hashmi is a practicing Nephrologist and Obesity Medicine specialist in Southern California. He is a sought-after speaker on topics ranging from health, nutrition, fitness, and wellness. Currently, Dr. Hashmi serves as the Regional Director for Clinical Nutrition and Weight Management at a large healthcare organization in Southern California. Driven by his lifelong commitment to serving others, Dr. Hashmi provides evidence-based health, nutrition, and wellness research through his 501c(3) nonprofit, SELFPrinciple.org.
